The land surrounding Trap Pond was once covered in freshwater wetlands, and the park retains much of that natural beauty and mystery today. The millpond was created in the late 1700s to power a sawmill used to process the large baldcypress trees harvested in the area. The Civilian Conservation Corps began clearing the area for recreation in the 1930s. Trap Pond became Delaware’s first state park in 1951.
The Trap Pond Nature Center combines a stunning meeting and conference facility with the tranquility and lush surroundings of the pond and the park. The building is surrounded by native trees and shrubs, and it sits along the banks of the millpond. Your guests can enjoy walking trails, biking, fishing and boating as part of their Trap Pond experience.
